I meet so many women who have lost touch with their sacred feminine nature. Thousands of years of patriarchal rule have left many women unmoored and disconnected from the ground of the sacred feminine. Luckily, there are ways to reconnect with our wild and sacred feminine nature. One my favorite ways is through dreams. Our dreams reconnect us to the yearnings of our sacred feminine Soul in a deep and wonderful way. Dreams can help us find our way home.
Does a child have to be taught how to dream? No! Humans are born dreamers. We actually began dreaming in our mother’s womb and never stop. But there are a few tools that can help us access and remember our dreams more easily.
Beyond nighttime dreaming, It is also possible to learn how to actively dream during the day. Most indigenous tribes had some method for actively journeying into dream space. Various forms of dream journeying have been in use all over the world for 40,000+ years. And indigenous women from many tribes have used their dreams and visions to tap into the energies of Soul and the sacred feminine.
Dreams live at the heart of Soul. That’s why dreams have transformed human life again and again; the horseless carriage, the loom, the telephone, the washing machine, air travel… even the common chair. Most inventions started out as crazy dreams. Dreams give us an “out of the box” way of viewing the world and enhance our creativity.
The simple act of dreaming has transformed our Earth and our way of life again and again. What else is possible in our future if women around the globe begin to remember and honor their dreams?
The future belongs to those who believe
in the beauty of their dreams.”
For thousands of generations women have journeyed into dream space seeking wisdom and guidance. All over the world, indigenous tribes developed techniques for taking shamanic journeys into dream space. The word ‘shaman’ actually means ‘one who sees in the dark.’ Many of your feminine ancestors were dreaming shaman.
Today, we can use many different methods to consciously enter into a dream state – drumming, rattling, dance, chant, breath-work, herbs, the power of intention… and once in dream space, we can energetically travel and explore, gaining insights as we look beyond the illusions of ordinary day to day reality.
“At the end, as at the beginning, stands the archetypal power
of the Divine Feminine – the goddess.
She is our future as she was our past.
With her drum in hand,
playing her sacramental rhythms,
women can once again take their place in the world
as technicians of the sacred.”
~Layne Redmond, When Drummers Were Women
Dream and Transform
Learning how to reconnect with the power of my dreams has played a huge part in my personal transformation. My conscious journeys into dream space have given me a much broader view of my world and my personal life. I have also come to understand how my mind works, and how I react to conflict, stress and fear. I have learned to embrace my feminine powers and strengths, and use them in all kinds of situations.
Dream journeys, lucid dreaming, daydreaming, flights of fancy, guided visualizations, trance work, talking to your angels… all of these are forms of dreaming in daylight. And your dreamy ideas, images and messages become even more accessible when you learn how to flow with your dreams.
