I meet so many people who have lost touch with their dreams. We can be in such a hurry to reach that next goal… and then the next, that dreams seem like a colossal waste of time. Yet, if we slow down enough to connect and listen to our dreams, they can help us find our way home. Our dreams can reconnect us to the yearnings of our Soul in a deep and wonderful way.
Does a child have to be taught how to dream? No! Humans are born dreamers. We actually began dreaming in our mother’s womb and never stop. But there are a few tools that can help us access and remember our dreams more easily.
Beyond nighttime dreaming, It is also possible to learn how to actively dream during the day. Most indigenous tribes had some method for actively journeying into dream space. Anthropologists claim that various forms of dream journeying have been in use all over the world for 40,000+ years.
Dreams live at the heart of us. And Soul speaks directly to us in our dreams. That’s why dreams have transformed human life again and again; the horseless carriage, the loom, the telephone, the washing machine, air travel… even the common chair; these inventions all started out as crazy dreams. Our dreams give us an “out of the box” way of viewing the world, and they pull our creativity to new heights.
The simple act of dreaming has transformed our Earth, and our way of life again and again. What else is possible in the future if we learn to pay attention to and honor our dreams?
The future belongs to those who believe
in the beauty of their dreams.”
Shamanic Dream Wisdom
For thousands of generations shaman, mystics and visionaries have journeyed into dream space seeking wisdom and guidance. All over the world, indigenous tribes developed techniques for journeying into dream space. The word “Shaman” actually means ‘one who sees in the dark.’ And various forms of shamanic style dreaming continue to be practiced by humans on every continent.
Shamanic dreamers use meditation, drumming, rattling, dance, chant, breathwork, herbs and/or the power of intention to put themselves into a dream or trance state. Once in this altered state of mind, the dreamer can energetically travel into dream space and see beyond the illusions of ordinary day to day reality. By traveling in the world of dreams, seekers expand their horizons and gain a much broader view of life.
“Australian Aborigines say that the big stories — the stories worth telling and retelling, the ones in which you may find the meaning of your life —
are forever stalking the right teller,
sniffing and tracking like predators
hunting their prey in the bush.”
Dream and Transform
Learning how to reconnect with the power of my dreams has been a huge part of of my personal transformation. My conscious journeys into dream space have given me a much broader view of my world and my personal life. I have also come to understand how my mind works, and how I tend to react to conflict, stress or fearful situations. And I have learned to embrace my strengths and use them in all kinds of situations.
Dream journeys, lucid dreaming, daydreaming, flights of fancy, guided visualizations, meditative trance work, talking to your angels… all of these are forms of dreaming in daylight. And your dreamy ideas, images and messages become even more accessible when you learn how to flow with your dreams.

“WE are the music-makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers,
And sitting by desolate streams…
…On whom the pale moon gleams:
Yet we are the movers and shakers
Of the world for ever, it seems.”
