“People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle.
But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air,
but to walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle
which we don’t even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves,
the black, curious eyes of a child — our own two eyes.
All is a miracle.”
~Thich Nhat Hanh
I wonder how much we miss when we walk through our days half awake; not noticing what’s right in front of us? What if we could put our big, silly human brains to work finding the joy that is right here in this moment? How much richer can our day to day reality become if we make awareness and joy our top priorities?
Each moment of life holds a choice; we can sleepwalk through our days or wake in wonder to this miraculous planet and all the beautiful beings we share it with. When we choose joy and wonder, the world seems to shower us with even more joyful and miraculous experiences.
Focus and awareness shift everything. Whatever we focus on, increases. We each have a choice in every moment, and I choose joy and wonder now.
Basic wakefulness, natural openness, is always available.
This openness is not something that needs to be manufactured.
When we pause, when we touch the energy of the moment,
when we slow down and allow a gap, self-existing openness comes to us.
It does not require a particular effort. It is available anytime.”
Being awake is the foundation of my writing practice. I have discovered first hand how creativity simply flows from each still moment of wakeful attention. Most of my blog posts flow directly out of my daily awareness practice. And I post them to help you pause and wake up.
